Our Business:

Pacific Aluminium was established in 2011 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Rio Tinto, with five primary assets in Australia and New Zealand. Our smelting operations include Boyne Smelters in Gladstone, Queensland, Bell Bay Aluminium near Launceston, Tasmania and New Zealand Aluminium Smelters in Invercargill, New Zealand. In addition, Pacific Aluminium is the majority shareholder of Tomago Aluminium, a non-managed site in the Hunter Region in New South Wales and Gladstone Power Station, a non-managed site in Gladstone.

With a total workforce of close to 4,000 employees and contractors, Pacific Aluminium produces in excess of 1.7 million tonnes of aluminium, primarily for export to Asia where our metal is fabricated into essential products for the transport, construction, packaging and electrical industries.

The Corporate Information Technology team forms part of the IT, Business & Production Systems department and leads the alignment between IT and Pacific Aluminium business units & functions with respect to strategies, processes, usage of Pacific Aluminium IT assets. The IT team is responsible for continuous improvement of processes, services performance, practices and costs reductions and drives the coordination, development and improvements of enterprise wide applications, processes, systems and architecture.

Technical Support Officer Opportunity:

We are currently recruiting for a Technical Support Officer position. The role will be located at our Brisbane head office reporting to the Senior Specialist IT. The Technical Support Officer role will be primarily responsible for the technical support of Pacific Aluminium’s Corporate office and the underpinning Desktop technologies, including Voice Services, Data Networks, Mobile devices and applications. The role delivers day to day operational support to users and ensures a professional, effective and timely “Hands On” technical assistance, implementing resolutions to problems in a timely fashion to minimize or avoid operational disruptions. This role will require a high level of customer service, co-operating professionally and effectively with clients and maintaining knowledge of the customer environment, business priorities and support requirements.

Who we are looking for:  

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Demonstrated experience in resolving problems with PC systems, peripherals, desktop operating systems and common desktop application products such as MS Office, Internet Explorer and Email, Printers, Mobile Phones and Smart Phones.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with users, vendors, and co-workers in order to express technical ideas in clear, understandable terms.
  • Proven ability to analyse complex problems and resolve them logically.
  • Relevant experience in a similar role, preferably within a similar industry, or demonstrated capability to achieve a positive outcome in a short period of time.
  • Degree qualified in IT (or similar discipline) and a basic knowledge of Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange & SCCM desirable.
  • An energetic, positive and enthusiastic approach with a strong, demonstrated commitment to health and safety.
