The Senior Database Administrator role delivers support services to the customer base and project teams by operating under the guidelines of defined processes and procedures, and demonstrating initiative, decision making, and personal leadership.
Key areas of responsibility are the following:
- Support the effort of Service Transition of either "complete new client engagements" or "new service introductions" and responsible for introducing these into the Infrastructure team portfolio following established transition in methodologies
- Responsible for initial incident triage and ticket response
- Responsible for daily service checks
- Diagnosing the database issues and taking corrective actions to ensure database availability
- Collaborate with the customer application team and make suggestions for optimal Database schema design based on business requirements
- Database capacity planning, Patching and upgrades and database migration to other platforms
- Monitoring, alerting, responding and resolving incidents
- Vendor engagement and support, collaboration with internaland external parties
ITIL qualified with a strong understanding of handling large databases in a managed service environment, you also bring excellent customer service and brilliant communication skills to the table.
Skills:
- Ideally a minimum of five years' experience as an administrator of Oracle, SQL Server and/or MySQL in production environments at an enterprise level
- Experience with DR and HA methodologies and planning
- Experience architecture review and best-practice infrastructure configuration relating to DBMS
Technical skills
- Oracle RAC and Dataguard, SQL Server Clustering, MySQL Replication and/or other Cluster methodologies/technologies
- Performance analysis and tuning
- Medium to advanced level Linux sh/ksh, PL/SQL and/or TSQL coding skills
- PostgreSQL, Sybase, DB2 and/or Progress administration (advantageous)
- Basic Wintel administration including PowerShell
- Deploying solutions and managing systems in Public Cloud (AWS/Azure)
- Experience with OEM and various Plugins and/or other 3rd party monitoring and management tools
- Backup methods using RMAN, SQL Server Backups and other 3rd party backups systems (Veritas NetBackup/BackupExec, Commvault)
