About the business and the role

Bird in Hand is one of the Adelaide Hill's most acclaimed wineries. Producing world class, premium, cool climate wines including Chardonnay, Shiraz, Pinot Noir and emerging alternative Italian varieties. Our small cellar team works from grape to bottle, as we oversee all aspects of the winemaking process in our onsite winemaking facility. The Bird in Hand estate produces outstanding Pinot Noir, 3 Dijon clones of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and 4 clones of cool climate Shiraz. Our winery team continues to evolve, innovate and create wines that sit at the forefront of Australian winemaking. The Senior Cellar Hand is a casual role, that will involve full time hours. 

Job tasks and responsibilities

Vintage operations including press operation, crusher, pumps and ferment management.

Filter operation (x-flow and earth)

Barrel work (racking, topping, stirring, sampling and washing)

Bottling line operations (working alongside cellar manager)

Blending

Tanker loading, unloading

Daily cellar cleaning and hygiene

Skills and experience

Minimum 3 vintages as a cellar hand

Forklift license

Knowledge of pumps, presses, crushers and filtration

Wine knowledge 

Wine making graduates desirable

Sensory skills
