Australian Apples and Pears Limited (APAL) is an industry representative body and not-for-profit membership organisation that works to add genuine value to Australia’s commercial apple and pear growers. It is a unique peak body with both a commercial and industry aspect. APAL owns, licenses and manages a number of fresh produce brands which includes the global leading apple brand Pink Lady®.

Predominantly based in growing regions nationally, the Industry Engagement Manager will be developing close relationships with the growers, packers, state based farming organisations and relevant regional stakeholders. You will be the main communication channel between APAL and its members, providing the conduit between the growing regions and working closely with the organisation’s commercial team.  Travelling across regional Australia, you will have a passion for agribusiness and working with growers to discover and understand their challenges and opportunities. Your ability to demonstrate depth of knowledge across industry will hold you in good stead and you will be a natural ambassador for APAL and its values.

An essential element of this role is to report on local issues, embed APAL led industry strategy and initiatives across regions and implement where necessary services to ensure ongoing improvement and effectiveness of the industry.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Participate in the development of the industry services strategy in conjunction with APAL’s leadership team
  • Develop the project plan for the pre-determined industry services strategy and implement throughout growing regions
  • Represent APAL to the grower regions; communicating member services and benefits and connecting members with relevant support
  • Maintain and build strong industry relationships, build trust with APAL members to ensure their issues are heard and instil belief in solutions APAL can provide
  • Represent APAL at relevant industry meetings across the country
  • Collaborate with the wider APAL team 

Qualifications and Experience required: 

  • Demonstrated experience in regional and/or primary industries – Agriculture experience is highly desirable in the success of this role
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to adapt to an ever changing environment
  • Strong interest in use of digital technologies to engage your audience
  • An ability to initiate, sponsor and implement organisational change and assist others to successfully manage change
  • Previous leadership experience, having managed a remote team and can lead by example
  • Self motivated, well organised with a high sense of responsibility
  • Strong stakeholder management abilities to build constructive and effective relationships at all levels
