One of Australia’s largest vertically integrated nut growers is seeking a talented and motivated technical professional with applied or clinical knowledge of nut/drupe farming, plant biology, lifecycle and knowledge relating to plant health and yield optimisation. Based on farm outside of Moree, this role suits an ambitious Botanist, Agronomist or similar technical professional, looking to extend or develop their experience working in the field. This is an exciting new role, and represents an opportunity to develop evidence based technical strategies to optimise and grow production with one of Australia’s largest Pecan growers.

Responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

• Liaising with al levels of on-farm staff, including Senior Farm Management in the provision of ad-hoc technical advice and process improvements.
• Developing, proposing and implementing project based research strategies to improve production & yield.
• Collecting evidence and data in the filed across numerous sites nationally.
• Supporting Senior Management in the technical assessment of new acquisitions with respect to viability and land site preparation.
• Guiding nursery staff in relation to best practice propagation and early life health of seedlings.
• Supporting and guiding farming staff in relation to the best practice maintenance and care of young trees.
• Liaising with existing technical and management staff in relation to nutrition, irrigation and soil health.
• Developing reports, presentations and proposals to Senior Leadership.

Demonstrated knowledge, skills and qualifications:

Essential:

• Degree or equivalent qualifications in Agronomy, Botany, Science or other relevant technical field.
• 3-5 years relevant experience in a similar role.
• You possess and have applied your clinical knowledge of nut/drupe biology (or relevant crop) that can be applied to large scale farming strategies to improve production and yield.
• You are a clear and confident communicator, able to articulate technical knowledge in simple terms to all levels of the business, including Senior Leadership.
• You have good technical knowledge you can apply immediately.
• You have some applied knowledge of farming or agribusiness.
• You are capable of undertaking evidence-based research to develop or support your strategies.
• You are comfortable with regular national and regional travel.

Desirable

• You have held a similar role in Pecan or Macadamia production/farming.
• You have undertaken research in a relevant field, that can be applied to this role.
