headspace Mount Isa is seeking a Community and Youth Engagement Officer to join their dynamic and dedicated team.
The Community and Youth Engagement Officer role is responsible for organising and overseeing all headspace Mount Isa external community and youth engagement activities. This includes supporting other headspace staff, co-contributed staff and private practitioners who may take part. You will be the external face of headspace Mount Isa and will represent the centre at relevant locations and events, particularly those of most relevance to headspace core business (GP's, schools, universities, other health and youth services etc.)
This position requires after hours/weekend work and, at times, some travel to other remote communities across the North West and Lower Gulf of Carpentaria.
Skills and experience:
- Possession of a Diploma or Certificate in a relevant discipline (such as Health Promotion, Youth Work or Marketing) and/or substantial experience in a similar role in the government or the NGO sector;
- Comprehensive understanding on the importance of early intervention in mental health for young people, and the ability to deliver education on youth mental health and mental illness;
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Youth service sector;
- Working knowledge and familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Facebook and Twitter and capacity to learn a new clinical software package as required;
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills including written and verbal communication, customer service skills and people management skills;
- Demonstrated organisational and analytical skills in problem solving, making decisions and developing strategies autonomously;
- A demonstrated ability to work with young people in a manner that is approachable and youth friendly'.

The lead agent for headspace Mount Isa is Gidgee Healing and is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service that is based in Mount Isa. headspace Mount Isa is governed by a consortium of local community organisations and the centre provides early intervention services at no cost for young people aged 12-25 years across 4 core areas:
- Primary Health Care
- ATODS
- Mental Health & Counselling
- Vocational / Education Services
