The Role

The Prospect Management Officer is responsible for managing the pipeline of prospective and current donors, and providing research support to inform Development decisions. The Prospect Management Officer works proactively to identify and qualify prospective individual, corporate and foundation major donors to help build a strong fundraising pipeline.

Your Key responsibilities will include;

  • Support the Development Strategy by working directly with Development Services Manager and Director of Development to identify, research and manage prospective major donors. 
  • Proactively and thoughtfully translate business needs (particularly a detailed knowledge of prospect and proposal pipelines) into moves management actions; implement relationship/pipeline management procedures and ensure that relevant information is captured in the donor and alumni database to support donor strategy, major gift officer performance management and philanthropic income forecasting.
  • Participate in regular portfolio reviews with Development staff to support the management of their portfolios. 
  • Seek out opportunities to continuously improve in anticipating future research and pipeline needs.
  • Develop and execute creative strategies to identify potential major gift donors using prescribed research techniques and online searching methodologies.
  • Provide high-level research on individuals, corporations, and foundations using a wide variety of biographical, organisational and financial sources.
  • Consolidate information from a variety of sources into a concise profile/briefings tailored to a variety of audiences. Update the database with relevant biographic, philanthropic interest and financial data.
  • Provide thorough ad-hoc reporting to the Director of Development and CEO as required.

Selection Criteria

To be successful in this role, you will need:

Essential

  • Experience in prospect research, development, library research or related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically and strategically
  • Ability to analyse and organise information to identify philanthropic patterns, tendencies, and relationships among individuals, corporations, and foundations.
  • Ability to recall, recognise, and communicate interrelated information pertaining to benefactors and prospects.
  • Working knowledge of terminology and resources specific to fundraising.
  • Strong client orientated approach and ability to build relationships at all levels of the business
  • Exceptional writing and oral communication skills with the ability to consolidate information in appropriate form for different audiences and write detailed analytical reports
  • Demonstrated qualitative research skills using a variety of resources
  • Strong computer literacy skills and experience working with a relational database, as well as the Microsoft Office suite of products, including excel. Ability to download and export information between systems

Desirable

  • Experience with the ThankQ CRM
  • Demonstrated ability to implement prospecting methodologies to support institutional goals; identify prospects (eg: through constituent list segmentation, electronic database screening,) and understand wealth indicators, including income (estimated or public) and assets.
  • Knowledge of current trends within philanthropy and academic medicine
