About the role

The Grants Officer (Major initiatives, Contracts and Grants) will provide efficient and effective pre and post-award support for research grants as well as assisting researchers and the University to meet obligations to research sponsors and collaborators. The Grants Officer (MICG) will be required to work and move across MICG teams, work across the grants lifecycle as well as undertake any necessary business process improvement initiatives. They will work closely under the supervision of various MICG Team Managers and other team members, as well as more broadly with Academic Division staff.

The Grants Officer will exercise a high degree of independence, mature judgement and liaise directly with University of Melbourne staff and external parties. They will be required to develop, maintain and remediate where necessary, effective working relationships with Academic Divisions, Chancellery and University Services to ensure high quality and timely service delivery.

About you

Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and or equivalent combination of education and training and relevant experience.

  • Flexibility and adaptability. Demonstrated ability to work in different areas within a team.
  • Experience in research grants administration or other complex funding programs.
  • Ability to provide high quality advice to academic and professional staff at all levels and research students on research grant administration issues, including pre and post award matters.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively across a broad range of tasks as part of the team, committed to quality service to internal and external clients.
  • High level interpersonal and written communication skills (including the ability to prepare correspondence for internal and external audiences, excellent attention to detail.
  • High-level conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability in the effective use of computer applications (MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint), internet browsers, and information systems.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a changing and fast paced environment
