The Safety Manager - Network Maintenance is responsible for facilitating a high standard of Safety Management and compliance to standards. This position provides onsite support, specialist advice and technical support during significant asset management works along with incident investigation and audit tasks.

 

Reporting to the Executive General Manager – Asset Management key responsibilities include working collaboratively with the V/Line Safety team to implement safe access strategies, through a controlled change of the Book of Rules; developing safe working strategies for work groups under occupation, through Segregation by Separation; promoting and input to training of protection for all V/Line personnel and contractors/service providers working on the V/Line Network that addresses risks to safety So Far As Is Reasonably Practical; implement and chair whiteboard meetings for major occupations and prepare risk assessments for implementation; and undertake site safety inspections/audits and prepare reports and recommendations.

 

To be successful in this role you will have extensive experience in operations and safety around infrastructure maintenance and renewals. You will have good working knowledge of relevant rules and regulations, exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) which allow you to build strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and the ability to facilitate and influence change. You will hold a relevant qualification in workplace health, safety and environment and a current drivers’ license. Knowledge of track force protection would be advantageous.

 

Whilst based at Docklands this role requires the successful applicant to spend the majority of their time working from other V/Line sites, to be on-call and attend to after-hours incidents and also includes work on weekends and public holidays.

 

The salary for this position will be commensurate with experience and is a Medical Category 3 position.  The selection process may include aptitude assessments, a behavioural event interview, national probity (police) check and medical examination in line with the National Standard for Health Assessment for Rail Safety Workers.
