Located in the Laverton region, AngloGold Ashanti Australia's Sunrise Dam is one of Western Australia's premier gold mines. Now solely an underground operation following 17 years of open cut and combined open cut-underground mining, this operation employs more than 500 people and produces approximately 300,000 oz of gold per annum. Operating on an attractive 8/6 fly-in fly-out roster, Sunrise Dam boasts excellent accommodation and facilities.

We are now seeking an experienced Mine Geologist to work in the underground mine at Sunrise Dam Gold Mine. This role is permanent and based on a FIFO 8/6 roster from Perth.

As part of the Geology team, this role is accountable to the Senior UG Mine Geologist and is integral in providing quality geological information to ensure the short term planning targets are met.

The main tasks of the roles include:

  • Plan and supervise reverse circulation grade control drilling programs
  • Map development exposures for structure, alteration, rock type and mineralisation
  • Produce high quality geological maps which can be used in the ore modelling process
  • Maintain and develop the geological drilling and production databases and spread sheets
  • Reconcile stope production tonnes and grade back to the geology grade control model
  • Contribute to the departments QAQC work by compiling monthly reports and conducting regular rig inspections
  • Contribute to the monthly mine to mill reconciliation process
  • Assist with grade control modelling using conditional simulation techniques
  • Assist with supervising the Graduate Mine Geologist, Geology Technician and Production Assistants in all aspect of their roles
  • Contribute to the development of the Mining department 3 month schedule and 7/21 schedules and execute the requirements of the departmental budget
  • Identify, assess and manage risks in order to improve reliability, quality and confidence of operational performance for the Grade Control Definition process

 The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Geology Degree preferable with Honours
  • At least 2 years geological experience in an operating underground mine
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork.
  • Sound knowledge of software applications including Vulcan, Datashed and MS Suite. Micromine and MP3 experience is desirable but not essential.
  • A results oriented can-do approach to getting things done and a desire to learn and take on new responsibilities.
  • Physically capable of performing tasks requiring considerable amount of lifting and manual handling
  • Tolerance to heat, dust and extreme environmental conditions
  • Good numeracy, literacy and communication skills
  • Good understanding of OH&S in the workplace
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Current manual WA drivers licence
  • Permanent work rights in Australia
  • National Police Clearance.
