Detail information about job Anniversary Fellowships. Terms and conditions vacancy

The University of Stirling has a growing reputation internationally as a formidable seat of learning where ability, not background, is valued.

As part of its 50th Anniversary, the University’s prestigious postdoctoral Anniversary Fellowship programme is currently accepting applications. Over recent years, more than £2 million has been awarded in Fellowships and through this programme, we are continuing to invest in interdisciplinary research enabling the next generation of researchers to realise their potential, fulfil their ambition and deliver world-class thematically-based outcomes that directly address the needs of society.

Anniversary Fellowships are available across a range of research programmes – Extreme Events; Human Security, Conflict & Cooperation; Environmental Change; Home, Housing & Communities; Health & Behaviour; Ageing & Dementia; Mobile Cognition; Being Together; Contextual Learning in Humans and Machines; Digital Society & Culture; Global Food Security; Cultural Heritage.  These contribute to our three interdisciplinary research themes: Global Security & Resilience; Living Well; Communities, Cultures & Society.  For more information on the University’s Research Themes, visit: www.stir.ac.uk/research/themes/

We invite applications from ambitious researchers who have identified potential linkages across our academic base which demonstrate their interdisciplinary approach and who want to excel and make a positive impact on society.  Fellows will be assigned a senior mentor within their host Faculty who has an excellent personal record on research publication and external funding and there will be an expectation that the two will work together to develop a portfolio of funded research.

These 2-year research positions offer the opportunity for outstanding early career researchers embarking upon an independent research career.

Candidates will normally hold a doctorate (in exceptional cases, candidates may have submitted their PhD thesis, but not yet have undertaken their viva) and will normally have a maximum of six years postdoctoral research experience, either in a University or industrial setting. The Fellowships are designed to assist Fellows embarking upon an independent research career, with the prospect of transitioning to a lecturing position at the end of the Fellowship (subject to availability of suitable positions and relevant HR processes). During their appointment, Fellows will be expected and supported to secure significant external research funding with which to continue their interdisciplinary research programme after the end of their Fellowship. They are expected to:

  • undertake research in line with the Faculty and University's research strategies.
  • develop the skills and attributes required of a full member of the academic staff of the University.
  • carry out a programme of innovative research.
