Purpose and Main DutiesBirkbeck, University of London, is a research-intensive institution ranked in the top 250 universities in the world by Times Higher Education. The School of Business, Economics and Informatics brings together the College’s business-facing departments and has expanded by over 70% since its creation in 2009. We are based in the heart of Bloomsbury, a few minutes walk from the British Library, British Museum and other University of London colleges.
The Department of Computer Science and Information Systems is one of four in the School and it brings together research and teaching expertise related to its major research activities in Algorithms, Verification and Software, in Knowledge Representation and Data Management, and in Experimental Data Science. You will be expected to contribute to, or complement, one or more of these research groups.
We are particularly seeking an applicant with expertise in Data Analytics/Data Science who will contribute to one or more of the interdisciplinary research themes of the Birkbeck Knowledge Lab (see http://www.klab.bbk.ac.uk/research).
Applicants are expected to have teaching experience and, in particular, to be able to develop and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses in software engineering and computer programming.
We require applicants to have completed a Ph.D. or equivalent in a relevant field and have established an international reputation for outstanding research in Computer Science, as well as a proven track record of working across disciplines. It is expected that you will have experience commensurate with the level of the post.

Salary: Grade 8 of the College's London Pay Scale which is £42,913 rising to £50,514 per annum.
This post is full time, 35 hours per week (1.0 FTE) and open-ended. The salary quoted above is on the College's London Pay Scale and includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the Greater London area. The initial salary will be dependent on the skills and experience of the successful applicant. The appointment is subject to a probationary period of 3 years.
