Background
This is a part-time fixed term post to undertake research related activities for the ADAPT (Assistive Devices for empowering disAbled People through robotic Technologies) project. You will contribute in all phases of the project: literature review; benchmarking/mapping of services for disabled adults and training for healthcare professionals; design of survey, tools and schedules; ethical approval; preparation and conduct of fieldwork; data management; data analysis and writing up of results.
The ADAPT project is funded by the EU Interreg Channel Manche Programme 2014-2020 (co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund) and was awarded €5.9 million Euros in January 2017 for four years.
The Role
Sixteen partners from the UK and France, including universities and research laboratories, companies, several NHS trusts, economic clusters and heath science networks, are collaborating in this project to tackle mobility problems faced by elderly and disabled people. This will include designing and developing a new smart and connected Electronic Powered Wheelchair (EPW), which will help disabled people through Assistive Technologies, and a virtual-reality driving simulator for an immersive experience of this smart EPW. It would also include designing and developing training for healthcare professionals to enable them to engage more effectively with the Assistive Technology applications; and, developing technology transfer to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to embed this technology in the health care area.
You will be a confident researcher with a PhD in a Health/Social Care related field (e.g. Allied Health Care Professions, Nursing, Psychology) with prior experience of working on funded research projects, preferably in the area of care of people with mobility difficulties who are wheelchair users and of Assistive Technologies in the health care of people with disabilities. You will be familiar using quantitative/qualitative methodologies and methods (e.g. questionnaires, surveys, interviews, focus groups).
Requirements
You will have experience conducting quantitative and qualitative data analysis with the use of appropriate software (e.g. SPSS, NVivo). You will have experience in designing and delivery training of health care professionals at various levels - unqualified, pre-registration, and post-registration and Continuing Personal Development (CPD) levels. You will have demonstrable evidence of contribution/s to report production and publications in peer reviewed journals.
