The Brunel Research Institutes are home to world-leading research themes including Brunel Centre for Advanced Solidification Technology; The Wolfson Centre for Materials Processing; Environment and Health; Biomedical Engineering and Synthetic Biology. We also host the RCUK National Centre for Sustainable Energy use in Food chains (CSEF) and the EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Liquid Metal Engineering (LiME).
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic Service Manager on a permanent basis to support the Institutes Director of Operations.
The successful candidate is expected to:
- Lead and motivate a team of technicians, overseeing the day-to-day management of a diverse range of research facilities;
- Ensure effective support to the researchers in the laboratories; and
- Have over-arching responsibility for ensuring compliance with Health and Safety policy and implementing best practice.
You will join the Institutes senior management team and will be expected to represent the Institutes on University Committees and Project Boards. You will have a sound understanding of Health and Safety regulations and procedures, and experience of implementing these in workshop and laboratory environments is essential.
The successful candidates should have technical qualifications, such as Technician 1, 2 and 3 City and Guilds, BTec, HNC, or undergraduate degree as a minimum, or equivalent. A postgraduate degree would be advantageous. It is essential that you have excellent communication, organisation and IT skills, and have the ability to work both independently and as an effective team member. Experience of line managing technical staff is also essential.
