Summary:
The Faculty of Social Science hosts a vibrant interdisciplinary Digital Society Network (DSN, www.sheffield.ac.uk/faculty/social-sciences/digital-society-network) which supports and enables digital society research.
The postholder will be based within the Department of Sociological Studies which is one of the thirteen departments within the Faculty.
You will work with Professor Helen Kennedy and the Digital Society Network (DSN) steering committee on a broad portfolio of research in the field of Digital Society. The role has a large developmental element, encompassing assisting with proposal writing and identifying funding and grant opportunities across the digital society field in the UK and Europe. You will work with the DSN steering committee to implement a strategy which is inter-disciplinary and international and you will work with Professor Helen Kennedy on large, interdisciplinary bids and fellowship applications, providing support as appropriate, specifically in the areas of data in society, human-data interaction and data visualisation. You will be responsible for undertaking a wide range of tasks in the preparation of research applications, including literature reviews, liaison with research partners and specific writing tasks.
The successful applicant will work with Professor Helen Kennedy and the Digital Society Network (DSN) steering committee on a broad portfolio of research in the field of Digital Society. You will have a PhD (or equivalent experience) in a relevant subject (e.g. Sociology, STS, Media Studies, Digital Media), with specialist academic experience in and knowledge of data in society (human-data interaction, data visualisation, data ethics, algorithmic accountability).
This full-time, fixed-term post is available immediately for 24 months.
