Detail information about job Research Associate - Gastroenterological Intervention Group. Terms and conditions vacancy

The GENIE (Gastroenterological Intervention Centre) Group, headed by Prof Laurence Lovat, is seeking a full-time Research Associate to investigate the genetic and epigenetic drivers of oesophageal cancer. The appointee will be supervised by Prof Lovat and will be based in the Division of Surgery and Interventional Science.

We are currently investigating the possibility of diagnosing cancer risk based on salivary biomarkers, specifically epigenetics and transcriptomics, in a national clinical trial, collecting samples (saliva, tissue and blood) from patients attending ten partner hospitals around the country.

The postholder will be expected to work on our translational project to define the (epi)genomic alterations involved in oesophageal cancer, how these effect the molecular biology of tumour development and how they can be utilised as clinical biomarkers. Initially the focus of this post will be to lead in the analysis and development of salivary epigenetic biomarkers for the detection and early diagnosis of oesophageal cancer.

The position is available immediately and is initially funded for 12 months.

The postholder must have a PhD in biological sciences or in a relevant discipline (cancer genomics, epigenomics or translational gastroenterology) or have equivalent relevant experience. Knowledge of cancer biology, excellent all-round knowledge of molecular biology and bioinformatics analyses of sequencing- and array-based data are all essential. The successful candidate must be proactive with a forward thinking approach to work, with the ability to work independently as part of a supportive team.

Applicants should apply online. To access further details about the position and how to apply please click on the ‘Apply’ button below.
