These are exciting times for the Department of Chemistry at Imperial College London. As well as being (from 2018) the first academic department to occupy research space on the College’s innovative new White City campus, the department is committed to further strengthening its world-class undergraduate education across both the South Kensington and White City campuses, in line with the College’s new Learning and Teaching Strategy. The Department of Chemistry proudly holds an Athena SWAN Gold Award and strives to provide a working environment where all our staff feel fully supported to flourish and excel.
We are seeking up to four Teaching Fellows who will play a key role in delivery of our undergraduate courses. The postholders will also contribute to the implementation of the College’s Learning and Teaching Strategy within the Department.
The successful candidates will be expected to have a degree or equivalent with substantial Chemistry components. In addition, candidates will be expected to have completed or be nearing completion of a PhD (or equivalent) in one of the following areas:
- Organic/Medicinal Chemistry
- Synthetic Chemistry
- Any other area of Chemistry
All applications must also have, or be working towards, a recognised teaching qualification, or be able to demonstrate an equivalent level of experience in a formal teaching environment. A specialist knowledge of teaching methods and techniques within the field is also essential.
The successful candidates will have recent experience and proven competence of teaching or tutoring Chemistry effectively at an undergraduate level (including MSci), and will be familiar with strategies to promote and assess teaching. They will also have experience of promoting effective learning and interaction with students, and be able to motivate students in the study of Chemistry.
* It is expected roles will be awarded in the job family range Professional Services Level 3b dependent on qualifications and experience. In cases of exceptional candidates with significant relevant experience an appointment at the Level 4 scale may be considered. For appointment at Senior Teaching Fellow level, candidates will be expected to hold a PhD (or equivalent) in any of the fields listed above, and have completed a recognised teaching qualification (or equivalent). They will also have a proven ability and achievements in a broad range of teaching, and a sufficient breadth and depth of specialist knowledge to develop teaching programmes.
