Detail information about job Curator, Newspaper Digitisation. Terms and conditions vacancy

Fixed Term Contract to 31st March 2020

This is an exciting opportunity to help develop the British Library’s digital newspaper collections.

The Library has launched a three-year project, entitled Heritage Made Digital, a major part of which is to digitise over one million pages from its nineteenth-century British newspaper collections, with a special focus on newspapers in a poor or unfit condition.

Working with the News Curation and Heritage Made Digital teams, you will be responsible for the selection, description and curation of newspapers under the Heritage Made Digital programme. You will ensure that the newspapers selected for digitisation will match specific research needs. You will promote and interpret the digital newspaper collection for general and specialist audiences.

With evidence of a strong interest in historical newspapers and nineteenth-century history, you will have experience of working in an archive environment, backed up with good knowledge of research work in this field, and strong IT skills.

This is a great opportunity to work with one of the world’s major newspaper collections, making many historical newspapers available online for the first time.
