Central CambridgeCambridgeshire

A Research Associate position is available in the Centre for Sustainable Development, Department of Engineering, located in Central Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.

The research will be focussed on modelling, simulating and conducting in-situ experiments of traditional solid-walled buildings that have been retrofitted with thermal insulation in the UK. The study will be looking into Internal Wall Insulation (IWI) performance and the effects of heat and moisture transport across the building envelope. The research will involve both field work conducting in-situ testing in real housing and office based work around modelling different building types. The aim is to monitor the wall performance of thermal retrofitted housings and then model them with WUFI software.

The project is funded by a multinational corporation, Kingspan Insulation, and the role of the researcher will include regular client interaction, visits to the company's headquarters and travelling to Kingspan's facilities in the Netherlands to conduct experiments.

Applicants must have a PhD degree in building modelling, thermal efficiency in buildings or building material science. Ability to work on own initiative; effective written and verbal communication skills; track record in data analysis and/or numerate research skills; familiarity with simulation tools, ideally in building modelling, and Matlab (or similar tool).

The salary scale for a Research Associate is: £30,175 - £38,183

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.
