Location: Teagasc, Food Research Programme, Ashtown, Dublin 15.

Grade/Salary: Research Officer, with a starting salary of €32,729 per annum. The current salary scale is €32,729 to €63,700.

Starting pay will be at the minimum of the scale per Government Circular E100/8/82.  Exceptional circumstances may apply for candidates with current or recent previous service in the public sector (including Teagasc), subject to meeting the criteria as set out by Government.

Post Type: Permanent Appointment.

A panel may be formed from which future similar vacancies may be filled; such a panel will remain active for a maximum period of 12 months.

Basic Function: Teagasc seeks to appoint a Research Officer to contribute to the development, management and leadership in the Teagasc Meat Research programme. A key function of the role will be to validate carcass management procedures for enhancement of meat quality. The successful candidate will be a key member of the meat research group in the Food Quality and Sensory Science Department and will have responsibility for developing an internationally competitive meat research programme aligned with the needs of stakeholders.

Note: The ‘Essential’ qualifications, skills and knowledge outlined below are ‘must-have’ which will be used in the shortlisting process.

Essential Qualifications

  • Candidates must have an honours QQI Level 8 university degree in Food Science and Technology or a related discipline.
  • PhD in a relevant discipline

Desirable Qualifications

  • Post-doctoral or industry experience in meat science or a closely related discipline would be a distinct advantage
  • Aptitude for multidisciplinary approaches.
