Detail information about job Assistant Professor (80766-087). Terms and conditions vacancy

Warwick Physics seeks to make two academic appointments in the area of condensed matter physics (CMP). At Warwick, the broad CMP research agenda spans traditional and emerging interdisciplinary areas, including diamond, ferroelectrics, magnetic materials, multiferroics, semiconductors, superconductors, and other novel functional materials. We specifically invite applications from candidates who work in the following areas: crystal growth, spectroscopy/modern optics, functional materials. In addition, we encourage applicants who would collaborate with our well-equipped microscopy group and/or our team of theoretical and computational materials modellers. Applicants for these positions should have an excellent track record in publishing internationally leading research and a clear vision of how their work would complement our existing research strengths. Successful applicants will augment the Department’s current portfolio of CMP research activities, and will be committed to excellence in both research and teaching.

Crystal Growth: Warwick has world leading facilities and a strong track record for crystal growth that underpins research activities within the department and beyond. A new academic appointee would have a research focus on growing single crystals, with interesting superconducting, magnetic, or electrical properties, and/or their study at low temperatures, in high magnetic fields and pressures, both in the laboratory and at central facilities, using probes such as neutrons, x-rays, and muons.

Modern Optics/Spectroscopy: Warwick has state-of-the-art facilities for optical spectroscopy (ultrafast and frequency domain) and for microscopy. A new academic appointee would make use of these facilities to develop a significant research activity in a field such as ultrafast spectroscopy, THz spectroscopy, super-resolution imaging, optical and photonic materials, quantum information, quantum imaging, or another area of modern optics.

Functional Materials: A number of groups within Warwick Physics work on the creation and properties of Functional Materials. A new academic appointee would demonstrate synergy with our other research activities whilst also having an ability to exploit novel materials for practical applications. Cross-disciplinary expertise in micro/nanofabrication and an ability to work with industrial partners would be important for an applicant in this area.

Warwick encourages interdisciplinary research, across departments and schools, through a set of Global Research Priorities. Applicants will be expected to enhance these research activities, for instance in the Materials, Energy and/or Science & Technology for Health GRPs. The Department of Physics will provide an exciting and highly supportive environment in which academics can develop their careers. At Warwick, Assistant Professor is a tenure track position leading to appointment as an Associate Professor after successful completion of probation. The University of Warwick maintains a global outlook, has affiliates around the globe, and welcomes applicants of all nationality. We are fully committed to equality of opportunity and encourage application and enquiries from all suitably qualified candidates.

In addition to the above posts, we invite applications from outstanding scientists who either already hold an externally funded Research Fellowship, or are seeking a top-class institution with which to apply for such a Fellowship in a research area of interest to the department.

Candidates should submit their application via the online application system, although informal enquiries can be addressed to Professor Leadley at the address below. Email: [email protected]: +44 24765 24114
