Detail information about job Lecturer in Psychology - GAB0091-1. Terms and conditions vacancy

Brunel University London is a world-class university based in Uxbridge, West London. As one of the departments within the College of Health and Life Sciences, the Department of Life Sciences undertakes high quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and scientific research across the disciplines of Biosciences (including Environmental Science), Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences, and Psychology. With over 80 academics based on a pleasant campus in greater London, we are a highly committed and forward thinking academic community, proud of our world-leading research, our diversity and the student experience we provide.

With around 500 undergraduates and 60 postgraduates, the Division of Psychology, delivers an UG course with work placement in Psychology and (starting in 2017) Psychology (Sport, Health and Exercise), and a suite of MSc Programmes.

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Division of Psychology to recruit a highly motivated academic to support the research strength and teaching capacity in the area of Cultural & Evolutionary Psychology. The successful candidate will have a PhD in a relevant discipline, and experience of supervising research students, tutorials and practicals.

The post holder will also contribute to strengthening our research profile as we move towards the next Research Excellence Framework exercise. The post fits well with the College research strategy which involves the establishment, development and strengthening of new College Research Centres, of which the Centre for Culture and Evolution (CCE) is one. The CCE, with members drawn predominantly from the Division of Psychology, aims to bring together researchers in psychology, sports science, clinical sciences and other areas who study the evolutionary origins of, and cultural variation in psychology and behaviour – building on our existing strengths in evolutionary psychology and cross-cultural psychology. The post holder’s area of research will be in the area of cultural psychology.

We are proud of the exceptional development structure for early career academics at Brunel University London. Under Brunel’s Academic Life Cycle policy, the appointment to Lecturer will be subject to a two year probationary period (with associated reduction in teaching duties) followed by a two year development period. Subject to meeting probationary and development targets, the post holder will automatically be promoted to Senior Lecturer after four years.

We work hard to provide a supportive and positive environment and the Department of Life Sciences has recently been awarded an Athena SWAN Bronze Award. We are also a Disability Confident employer. The diversity of our staff adds greatly to this inclusive ethos, and we particularly welcome applications from women and under-represented groups.
