Salary: £36,800- £44,220 per annum (Maximum starting salary £37,760 per annum)

South Kensington Campus

The Department of Life Sciences was the top ranked university department in the UK for research intensity in Biological Sciences in REF2014 (Times Higher Education), scoring 100% on our environment.

We are looking to appoint a self-motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to join our laboratory within the Department of Life Sciences at Imperial College London’s South Kensington Campus. The Dionne laboratory is interested in the understanding of the immune responses to bacterial infections, the physiological consequences for the host and especially the understanding of immune-metabolic interaction during steady state and infection. We use Drosophila as a model host to explore new mechanisms underlying the immune response to bacterial infection.

This is a Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) funded project focusing on the role of the immune system in regulation of metabolic homeostasis and muscle health, related to prior work from the laboratory including Pean et al, Nature Communications, in press (2017), Woodcock et al Immunity (2015), 42: 133, Clark et al Cell (2013) 155: 435, and Clark et al Curr Biol (2011) 21: 1672.

The post holder will be open-minded with a strong interest in the immune response and its interaction with physiology.

You must have a PhD (or equivalent) in biological sciences or related disciplines. You must have specific knowledge of literature in immunology (especially, innate immunity) and physiological regulation. Significant experimental experience in immunology and/or physiology is highly desirable. Experimental expertise in intravital microscopy, flow Cytometry, Drosophilia genetics, Drosophilia infection/immunity, in vivo physiological analysis, advanced molecular biology especially as reflected in a strong history of publish work is also desirable.

You must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and be able to write clearly and succinctly for publication. The ability to develop and apply new concepts, have a creative approach to problem-solving, be able to work independently, prioritise and organise your own work with minimal supervision, in response to deadlines are essential.

Any candidate who has not been yet been awarded their PhD (thesis must be completed and submitted, viva should be scheduled), will be appointed as a Research Assistant within the salary range £32,380 - £34,040 per annum.

This is a fixed-term, full time appointment for up to 32 months.

If you are interested in our lab or have any scientific and informal queries, please contact Dr Marc Dionne via email at [email protected].
