We are seeking to appoint a specialist Rheumatologist to take up a full-time joint Academic and Clinical position within the University of Otago and Dunedin Hospital.

About UsThe University of Otago is New Zealand's first University and one of its finest. There is a close relationship between the University and the Southern District Health Board allowing access to patients for student teaching and learning across southern New Zealand and world-leading research.

The RoleFor your academic duties you will be based in the Department of Medicine, Dunedin School of Medicine, and will be appointed to the position of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer. You would be responsible for teaching at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and would have unlimited possibilities for laboratory and clinical based research. Joining a team of well-established researchers, you will receive plenty of support for your research and have many opportunities for meaningful collaborations.

The Rheumatology Research Unit is located within the Department of Medicine and has a long history of high quality research. You would be part of a team including a research nurse, doctoral and postdoctoral research students and Rheumatologist academic colleagues. You would be encouraged to develop your own area of research expertise, which would be supported by the University's ';Arthritis Research Theme'.

Clinical responsibilities are based at Dunedin Hospital, a 400 bed university Hospital providing care for a population of approximately 300,000 spread over a large area of the lower South Island of New Zealand. You will participate in a 1:4 on-call roster and provide a full range of Rheumatology services alongside enthusiastic colleagues.

Your skills and experience

  • An academic qualification and prior experience in teaching and research.
  • The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) or equivalent qualification and must hold, or be eligible for, vocational registration with the New Zealand Medical Council.
  • Familiarity or expertise in clinic-based ultrasound would be a benefit as the unit has a clinic based ultrasound machine.

This sustains some great activities such as theatre, live-music and a great selection of restaurants and cafes. Central Otago, with all of its great holiday spots and outdoor recreation opportunities is also easily accessible from Dunedin.
