In 2015 there were 178 recorded accidents caused by anti-vehicle mines (AVMs) across 25 states and territories worldwide with 598 casualties, of which 278 were killed. The actual number of accidents is suspected to be significantly higher.

This Research Associate post is funded by an EPSRC grant and is being recruited to work on the “A Clear Road Ahead” (ACRA) which is a multi-disciplinary project involving the Halo Trust and The London Business School. The project aims to investigate the use of a portable low cost prototype system designed for clearing anti-vehicle mines. This post will specifically investigate the socio-economic and political aspects of how areas are prioritised for clearance.

Due to the nature of the collaborative research the post will involve a significant amount of travel and the appointee should be able work independently in the field. It expected that the candidate will have an understanding of social research methods with preference given to candidates with a background in peace, security and post conflict resolution.

The selection process will include a panel interview.
