The Department of Life Sciences was the top ranked university department in the UK for research intensity in Biological Sciences in REF2014 (Times Higher Education), scoring 100% on our environment.

A Research Associate position is available to join the group of Dr Michalis Barkoulas in the Department of Life Sciences at the South Kensington Campus of Imperial College London. The group uses C. elegans as a model to understand fundamental aspects of epidermal stem cell patterning and mechanisms of innate immunity to oomycetes.

The post holder is expected to produce independent and original research within the research interest of the group leading to publications to refereed journals. The post holder will also contribute to other research activities in the lab including planning of research, analysing data, supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students and helping in public outreach events.

You must hold a PhD (or equivalent) in Biological Sciences. A solid background in molecular biology or biochemistry techniques and experience in developmental genetics or innate immunity are essential. You must also have a successful track record of academic publications commensurate with experience. Experience in microscopy and knowledge of Bioinformatics is also essential.  Previous experience in C. elegans research is desirable.

You must be highly motivated and have a creative approach to problem solving. You must have excellent communication skills to communicate complex information and be able to write clearly and succinctly for publication. The ability to prioritise work load in response to deadlines and organise work load with minimal supervision will be required.

This is a full-time, fixed term position for up to 24 months with the possibility of extension subject to the availability of funding.
