Detail information about job Research Fellow in Electrical Machines Thermal Management and Control - Fixed Term Contract. Terms and conditions vacancy

The Powertrain and Vehicle Research Centre (PVRC) at the University of Bath is recruiting a Research Fellow to provide specific expertise in the field of electrical machines thermal management and control on APC Disruptive Integrated Electrical Machines for Off Highway Vehicles project. The project is a collaboration with Ashwoods Automotive, a small and innovative motor manufacturer based in Exeter. The candidate will be expected to liaise with Ashwoods and other project partners and spend periods of time on their site. The technical aspects of the work include modelling the thermal condition of the machine and experimental studies into the control of the machine performed on the experimental facilities at Bath and Ashwoods.

Based at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, PVRC is a leading centre for theoretical, experimental and analytical research into powertrain systems in the UK. PVRC has an excellent track record in delivering industry-relevant projects, and has long established collaborations with industrial partners. The Centre considers its remit to be all of the links in the chain from energy storage to its conversion into mechanical work on board a vehicle. The recently secured £49m investment for the Institute of Advanced Automotive Propulsion Systems (IAAPS) will propel PVRC into global leading position.

Applicants must have extensive experience of electric machine/engine/vehicle test facilities, comprehensive understanding of electric machine operation and design, as well as track record of successful research project management and delivery.

Applicants should possess a PhD and an Honours Degree in Mechanical or Electric or Electronic Engineering discipline, or an equivalent professional qualification and significant relevant experience where applicable. Applicants should also have significant research experience. Proficiency with simulation, electric machine testing, data analysis and system control strategy is essential. Candidates should be self-motivated and possess project management and technical communication skills, and willing to work on other projects in the PVRC.

This position is full time (36.5 hours per week) and is being offered on a fixed term contract basis for upto 16 months, with an expected expiry date of 31 May 2019.

The University of Bath holds Bronze Award for Athena SWAN scheme, which promotes gender equality among all disciplines. We particularly encourage applications from under-represented groups.
