As one of the largest and most successful further education colleges in Europe, The Manchester College provides education and training to a wide range of learners and clients across the City of Manchester and beyond. The mission of the college is to deliver a high quality, inclusive and comprehensive curriculum, in an accessible and flexible way. The Manchester College is based at many sites across the city: from Openshaw and Harpurhey in the North to Wythenshawe and West Didsbury in the South, as well as several locations in the city centre. Each site has its own specialist, cutting edge facilities and resources within a friendly and supportive atmosphere. We currently have an opportunity for a Graduate Advisor to join our Higher Education team on fixed term, full time (37hrs per week) basis. The role is to provide first-level information, advice and guidance to target school/college pupils/students, teachers and parents in relation to the benefits of Higher Education, giving presentations at events within local schools and colleges. Key responsibilities (but not limited to) are as follows:

  • To work with designated schools and colleges to support target pupils, through group work and one to one support, as required by the institution.
  • To be an advocate for Higher Education within the school/college and encourage engagement in activities organised through Greater Manchester Higher
  • To organise, plan and deliver events and activities, within local schools and colleges, to meet targets as agreed with the Hub manager, liaising as necessary with the relevant colleagues and external partners.
  • To take responsibility for the designing and production of information and resources, including delivery materials for use on events
  • To maintain and produce statistical data required to demonstrate the impact and reach of the programme.

Qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Must hold a degree or equivalent
  • Professional approach, maintaining confidentiality and discretion at all times
  • Experience of providing advice and guidance to school or college pupils
  • Act as a role model to pupils drawing on personal knowledge of higher education
  • Flexible working, willing to travel across the Greater Manchester area
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, happy dealing with a variety of stakeholders and dealing presentations
  • Effective team player working together to achieve project goals
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office packages
