Full-Time: 35 Hours per Week, 1 Year Fixed Term (with potential for extension)

A University Innovation Fund (UIF) Collaboration Manager is required to support the delivery of collaborative elements of the University Innovation Fund (UIF). Launched by the Scottish Funding Council in AY 2016-17, the UIF is an ambitious outcome driven approach that incentivises universities to contribute to the delivery of national outcomes aligned with the Scottish Government’s economic strategy. It also forms part of the wider innovation policy framework that includes the Universities Scotland 5 point action plan and the Scottish Government’s ‘Innovation Plan’ published in January 2017. Hosted by UWS, the manager will provide leadership, guidance and support to all 19 universities in Scotland to deliver the collaborative elements of the AY 2017-20 UIF outcomes. The UIF guidance for AY 2017-18 is available at http://www.sfc.ac.uk/communications/Guidance/2016/SFCGD262016.aspx.

The UIF Collaboration Manager hosted by UWS and funded by SFC will be specifically required to:

  • Work in partnership with the SFC, universities and other key stakeholders (i.e. Universities Scotland, Scottish Enterprise, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Interface) to support the delivery of the collaborative elements of the UIF, including the development of a framework to report and evaluate the impact of the UIF outcome approach at a national level.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the current seven UIF groups established by the sector to support the delivery of collaborative elements of the UIF outcomes set for AY 2017-20, supporting the co-ordination of their work and the delivery of outputs from discussions.
  • Provide strategic advice, support and guidance to universities on the development of a framework for reporting and evaluating the impact of the UIF outcomes approach, co-ordinating university input, developing strategies for the sharing of good practice and establishing baselines for this purpose.
  • Monitor and ensure that the UIF continues to be aligned with current and future Scottish Government priorities.
  • Monitor international innovation developments to support the work of the UIF groups as appropriate.
  • Engage with other bodies in the Scottish innovation landscape as appropriate.

The role will have a ‘dual’ reporting line - a technical reporting line to the Head of Enterprise Services at UWS and a day-to-day ‘customer’ reporting line to the Assistant Director, Research and Innovation, SFC. The role will also report to Universities Scotland Research and Commercialisation Group (RCDG).
