We are seeking to appoint a Research Technician to support the work of Professor Stephen Goodwin and his group. The Research Technician will have a demonstrable academic interest in the biological sciences and will carry out a range of tasks which will include general DNA manipulations and maintenance of drosophila stocks.

The post holder will be responsible for general DNA manipulations which include PCR and cloning, and will establish genetic recombinant drosophila lines and assist other members of the Goodwin group with fly work. The post holder will also participate in stock control and reagents ordering, maintain drosophila stocks, assist with the daily housekeeping of a busy laboratory as well as assisting with basic scientific procedures.

The successful candidate will have a background in biological sciences, in particular molecular biology and genetics. You will have excellent organisation skills and be able to plan your time efficiently and effectively. You will be familiar with good laboratory techniques, practices and safety requirements. You will pay close attention to detail in your work and be able to solve or seek solutions to problems that may arise. Experience of working with drosophila would be an advantage but training will be provided for the right candidate.

The post is funded until 31 December 2018 and will be based at the Centre for Neural Circuits and Behaviour, Tinsley Building, Mansfield Road, Oxford, OX1 3TA.
