Detail information about job Faculty Research and Business Development Manager. Terms and conditions vacancy

We are looking for a highly self-motivated professional with a proven track record in research business development to support a combined step change in research funding activity and coordination of research support activities across the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences (FMHS) at the University of Nottingham.

This new role provides the exciting opportunity to make a real and visible contribution to the success of our research strategy in coordinating delivery of specific objectives within FMHS as the largest faculty in the University, aligned to the University’s ambitious vision as a leading research-intensive university.

FMHS has research expertise across medicine and health sciences, life sciences and (uniquely in the Midlands) veterinary medicine and science. Research in Medicine spans 11 major themes, ranging from cancer to vascular medicine. We work closely with industry and the NHS. Our early translational research is organised through our NIHR Biomedical Research Centre – the second biggest in the Midlands and North after Manchester - with a cross-cutting theme in MR imaging, a Nobel prize-winning area. Our world-class Health Sciences academics are leading projects that influence national and international guidelines. Our Life Sciences research covers all areas of contemporary biology and biomedicine and the School has some of the most modern equipment and facilities in the UK, particularly for cell surface imaging. We also co-host the flagship BBSRC/EPSRC Synthetic Biology Research Centre–Nottingham. Our Vet School undertakes innovative research on many key aspects of companion animals and livestock health and production; the Centre for Dairy Science Innovation is a major national centre developed in liaison with industry.

You will be proactively involved in strategic initiatives to increase the faculty’s research and business-related income and in this role your main responsibilities include:

  • Funding Opportunity Identification
  • Research Development
  • Research Strategy
  • Business Development

You will have a degree or equivalent in a Medicine/Health/Life/Veterinary Sciences discipline plus some hands on experience in a similar/related role or proven track record of extensive relevant work experience. Having an in-depth knowledge of relevant health and biomedical funding agencies, you will have been successful in identifying and realising a range of UK and international external funding opportunities, involving partnership working with industry and public sector agencies. You will support the development and co-ordination of the faculty’s impact portfolio, including commercialisation initiatives and be the FMHS liaison for the University’s Contracts Teams for both research and business-related projects. You must have experience of contract negotiation, IPR and a demonstrable successful track record in partnership development and management.

You will have the necessary confidence, communication skills and insight into the research culture of Higher Education to work collaboratively with researchers, business development colleagues across the university and external stakeholders.

This is a full time, permanent post.
