The University of Bristol is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic operational manager to lead and develop the Faculty of Engineering’s Workshops and Fabrication Facilities.
Our well-equipped workshops provide consultancy, design, repair and production services, which support teaching and research activities across a wide range of disciplines, including:; Mechanical; Electrical & Electronic; Civil and Aerospace Engineering; Computer Science; Engineering Mathematics; and Engineering Design.
This is an exciting role that will require you to shape the future development of the service, whilst providing central leadership to our varied workshop facilities. You will develop robust and effective local operating procedures, including finance, safety and people management.
This customer-facing role includes: working with internal service users to understand developing needs as well as current and future priorities; and with potential users to actively promote the workshops to ensure that the service is made available across the University. You will be as happy reviewing complex design data for manufacture as your are presenting the Workshops’ capabilities to first-year undergraduate students.
You will lead and co-ordinate a skilled team of workshop staff, technicians and apprentices (c.25 people), working across locations in the Faculty.
The post is being offered on an open-ended, full time contract with, including holiday, bank holidays and university closure days, 39 days leave per year. The University of Bristol supports flexible working in a cutting-edge teaching and research environment.
