Detail information about job BioBank Manager. Terms and conditions vacancy
Contract length: Fixed Term for 42 months
Based at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust
UHCW NHS Trust is committed to providing the best care for its patients. As part of this commitment, we have an active programme of research within reproductive health.
Partners with Tommy’s
The Tommy's charity exists to save babies' lives, funding research into the causes and prevention of pregnancy complications that lead to miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth. Tommy's also provide pregnancy health information for parents-to-be. We are a partner in Europe's largest research centre dedicated to preventing recurrent miscarriage. The Tommy's National Early Miscarriage Centre comprises of three centres based here in Coventry known as Tommy'[email protected], Birmingham Women's Hospital and Imperial in London. Tommy'[email protected] is led by Professor Quenby and her research is on the role the endometrium (the lining of the womb) in recurrent miscarriage.
Tommy's also fund research in 3 other centres of excellence: The Tommy's Maternal and Fetal Research Centre in St Thomas's London, The Tommy's Maternal and Fetal Research Centre in Edinburgh and The Tommy's Maternal and Fetal Research Centre in Manchester.
Together, the Tommy’s centres wish to set up a Reproductive Health Biobank to augment and enhance the six existing biobanks at the Tommy's funded centres, to provide added value for research. The biobank will be unique in combining expertise from these centres, four of the largest reproductive health research groups in the UK, into a single functional unit of international significance. The samples comprise of tissues obtained before pregnancy, at the time of miscarriage or during complex pregnancies, as well as in normal pregnancy. Clinical data will be linked to the samples using advanced soft-ware technology. This linked biobank will allow samples from each site to be characterised and tracked, and make them more accessible to the wider research community.
The Tissue Bank Manager offers an exciting opportunity to be part of this new initiative. They will co-ordinate input from all the Centres so that best practice in each area is shared efficiently, research governance and Human Tissue rules and regulations are adhered to, and the opportunities to make important scientific advances can be maximised. The Manager will lead on the training of all the part-time technical staff at each Centre, and audit and monitor competency and sample quality across sites. Candidates must have excellent organisation, communication and inter-personal skills. The ability to work flexibly and visit other Tommy’s sites is essential.
Informal enquiries are welcomed, and can be directed to Sean James, Arden Tissue Bank Manager and Genomics Ambassador, on 02476 965248 or 024 7696 4000 and ask for bleep number 4869, or Professor Siobhan Quenby, on 02476 968592 [email protected]
