The Scientific Computing Department (SCD) provides world class leading edge compute and data storage infrastructure to support the work of world class science both within STFC, the UK and internationally. The department defines, develops and manages the underpinning scientific computing infrastructure used to provide an extensive range of services for STFC facilities, namely ISIS Neutron and Muon Source, the Central Laser Facility and the Diamond Light Source.
About The Role
The facilities programme run by SCD has a vacancy for a highly motivated IT professional or scientist with experience of delivering scientific computing services or e-infrastructure to manage the extensive computing infrastructure that supports the facilities services.
Within this role you will:
- Work with the existing service managers for the specific facilities to ensure services run smoothly and meet their operational commitments by
- Work alongside other team members, other groups in SCD, STFC and external collaborators to ensure that the services offered are able to meet the scientists’ requirements
- Investigate and recommend new technologies, services and management tools as required
- Asset management
- Capacity planning
- Potential to be part of an on-call team.
About You
As the ideal candidate you will be educated to degree level in a scientific or computing discipline or have relevant experience. You will have experience of delivering computing services in a production environment and have strong communication skills. Having experience with performance and exception monitoring tools is desirable.
