Detail information about job Research Associate- Air Compressor/Supercharger Feasibility Study - Fixed Term Contract. Terms and conditions vacancy

The Powertrain & Vehicle Research Centre (PVRC) conducts theoretical, experimental and analytical research into powertrain systems. We are seeking a Research Associate to join our team and lead experimental and modelling work into the behaviour of a novel air compressor concept that promises to be able to deliver very high compression ratios in a single stage. It also has exciting future capabilities as a highly efficiency expander or combustion engine concept. This research project will aim to demonstrate a working prototype of this compressor design as well as models to understand its behaviour for future improvements. The candidate will be required to play a leading role in a consortium that includes an SME and the University of Bath.

This is exciting opportunity to join a growing research team and the Research Associate will be based in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University but will be expected to interact closely with industrial engineers from the consortium partner and subcontractors. The successful candidates will be responsible for coordinating activities within the experimental research facility (a turbomachinery gas stand) and for conducting design and simulation work using 1D or 3D simulation suites as suitable.

Candidates should have a PhD in a relevant Engineering discipline, be very near to completion or have substantial experience of relevant industrial experience. Experience in the simulation and experimentation of compressors, turbomachinery or internal combustion engines will be an advantage.

Candidates should be self-motivated and possess project management and technical communication skills.

This is a fixed term role with an anticipated expiry date of 31 August 2018. The hours are full tie (36.5 per week).

Please include a detailed CV, an abstract of your PhD, and a representative academic paper.

For more details contact Dr Colin Copeland ([email protected]) or Professor Jamie Turner ([email protected]).
