Principal Duties

  • Promote a positive culture of personal development, behaviour and welfare through the cross College Partners for Success framework, where students feel safe, healthy, confident and prepared for their future career, including:
    • Understanding how to keep themselves safe from relevant risks such as abuse, sexual exploitation and extremism, including when using the internet and social media
    • Knowledge of how to keep themselves healthy, both emotionally and physically, including through exercising and healthy eating
    • Personal development, so that they are well prepared to respect others and contribute to wider society and life in Britain
  • Act as deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and College Single Point of Contact (SPoC) for Prevent and Channel (the multi-agency approach to prevent radicalism)
  • Lead the College’s Prevent Strategy to protect students from possible radicalisation by promoting fundamental College/British values
  • In liaison with the DSL, provide leadership and establish and maintain clear systems of communication across the College to ensure that all staff are adequately and appropriately supported to apply their safeguarding knowledge in order that the College meets its statutory obligations, has effective safeguarding systems and ensures the safety of all students:
    • Manage effective safeguarding reporting within the College and ensure compliance with all professional safeguarding networks
    • Develop effective working partnerships to promote safeguarding within the organisation
    • Lead on the review and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure that robust safeguarding systems and processes are in place, ensuring that they reflect current legislation and best practice
    • Analyse complex and sensitive information and provide regular reports of safeguarding concerns and referrals, risk and risk mitigation strategies to SMT and the Board of Governors
    • Monitor and report trends in safeguarding incidents
    • Lead on the development and co-ordination of effective safeguarding and Prevent learning and development across the organisation
    • Represent the College with external agencies and develop effective working partnerships with safeguarding professionals in other organisations to ensure consistent and coordinated processes to safeguard students
    • Provide support and guidance in respect of safeguarding queries to external agencies and other stakeholders
    • Ensure that agreed resolutions with all involved agencies and statutory bodies are implemented and monitored
    • Attend external events and maintain key external networks in order to stay informed of and influence current best practice in safeguarding
  • Contribute to the delivery of outstanding student support, engagement, teaching and learning leading to very high rates of retention, achievement, and progression
