BA (Hons) 3D Design is a vibrant course of study in the School of Art, Design and Architecture, in the Faculty of Art & Humanities. The programme is well established and includes connected pathways of study – Designer Maker, Product Designer and also Spatial and Interior Designer. Importantly, the course has a close relationship with Design Knowledge research group and enterprise related activity via Design Lab.

We are seeking a lecturer to support primarily undergraduate study in the named award of Designer Maker. You will contribute to practical and theoretical teaching and research in order to develop creativity supported by a solid work methodology. In the studio, your broad professional experience and skills should inspire the students; and will cover material knowledge, applied/digital making, designing, producing and communicating products/one-off objects/artefacts. The role will include knowledge of material culture studies, sustainability and theoretical enquiry. Underpinning the position is an ability to engage and contribute to the development of the programme.

The position requires academic critical skills combined with practical design experience. You will have substantial HE teaching experience and the necessary technical skills to teach in the field. The post may also involve input at postgraduate level and contribute to the development of research (PhD's and post-doctoral) and innovation, commercialisation and public engagement.

You will hold a high level degree or have equivalent experience in a relevant discipline and be able to demonstrate an established research track record and evolving profile appropriate to the role. Experience in masters/doctoral supervising is desirable. We will also consider applicants with extensive practical or industrial experience in relevant areas.

Working closely with the Award Lead / Programme leader, you will be expected to take part in curriculum development and course management as required. Key aspects of the role include delivery of teaching/lectures, module leadership, supervision of practical and theoretical study, personal tutoring, assessment and feedback, maintaining quality of delivery as well as organisation of educational field trips/visits, visiting lectures, career spines, student work placements and end of year shows as required.
