Location: Imperial College facilities at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, SW10 9NH, London

Reports to: Chief Operating Officer

Premature birth is the No. 1 cause of infant death and disability worldwide. Every year, 15 million babies are born too soon. 1 million will die. 75% of childhood health problems – cerebral palsy, deafness, blindness, development delays and learning difficulties – are associated with preterm birth. Across the globe, 1-in-12 babies are born too soon, and in the developing world, preterm birth rates and mortality rates are much higher. Yet our ability to reduce prematurity rates is negligible. We simply do not know enough.

At Borne, we are working to make childbirth safer for mothers and babies, ensuring every child’s first day on earth would not be their hardest.

Be inspiredResearch provides the foundations for lasting change. 85% of women who go into preterm labour are not identified to be at risk. We will make no progress in managing the complications of pregnancy until we know more about what is involved in normal and abnormal pregnancy and labour.

Borne (www.borne.org.uk) was set up as a research appeal in 2012 by Professor Mark Johnson with CW+, the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital charity. Between 2013 and 2015, Borne raised over £3.5 million in support of our mission. Borne became an independent charity in 2016, giving us the capacity to grow the research team, start new phases of research, extend our fundraising and build a national and global brand with a strong track record for preterm birth research.

Be challengedTo help us achieve our ambitions to accelerate our growth and impact, we are looking for a Senior Fundraising Manager to develop and lead our fundraising plans, particularly in growing our portfolio of major donors, gifts from trusts & foundations, and mutually beneficial corporate partnerships.

Coming from a background in high value fundraising, you will have proven your ability and affinity for nurturing influential relationships to secure gifts in the six-figure bracket. Academically strong and intellectually curious, you will be capable of effectively communicating complex funding proposals to a range of donors. We are looking for a passionate fundraiser with the very highest quality of donor stewardship skills, attuned to the sensitivities of relationships with donors, supporters and beneficiaries.

We’re open to our Senior Fundraising Manager coming from a background in charity, higher education, private philanthropy or grant giving. Our team is collaborative and passionate about our work, and there are exciting learning and development opportunities for you. We look forward to meeting you.
