Detail information about job Research and Grants Facilitator for Advanced Hackspace. Terms and conditions vacancy

Campus: South Kensington and White City Campuses

Fixed-term appointment available for 12 months in the first instance

Since its creation in 2014, the Imperial College Advanced Hackspace (ICAH) has created a unique environment for students and staff to engage in community-driven prototyping and disruptive technology development. ICAH aims to connect innovators and inventors with the tools and expertise they need to realise their creative ideas. The rapid growth of the Hackspace network over the last three years – >2000 members to date, with another 100 joining every month – demonstrates the demand for this resource amongst the College and its flourishing start-up community.

To continue to grow, and to build on ICAHs existing achievements, Imperial College has recently built a new £4.5M permanent 2000m2 engagement and creativity hub: The Invention Rooms. This facility is based at the new 25-acre Imperial College White City Campus (right next to White City underground station) which aims to co-locate scientists, industry partners and entrepreneurs, to speed the translation of scientific breakthroughs into societal benefit.

The Advanced Hackspace is keen to build on its track record of success with major funding initiatives by recruiting a Research and Grants Facilitator. The aim of the post is to take the lead in identifying, formulating, writing, organising, and managing large scale grant applications. This will might include multi-institution initiatives (including external academic and industrial partners) to a wide range of funding agencies. The post holder will play a key role in advancing the Hackspace’s grant portfolio.

The post holder will be expected to acquire a broad understanding and knowledge of the Advanced Hackspace’s activities, including external collaborations, potential impact of its work and likely funding sources for it. The post holder must have clear understanding of the full cycle of funding, from application stage to dissemination of outputs. They will have worked in a higher education/research institution, funding agency or within industry and have experience in writing research funding applications. The successful candidate will be experienced at contributing and negotiating at a senior level with staff and external agencies and achieving successful conclusions.

The ability to develop strong and productive working relationships with academic and research staff and members of the research support teams is also essential.
