School of Optometry and Vision Science
Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences
- Are you an Optical Assistant, or similar, with at least three years’ experience?
- Are you passionate about providing a high-quality service to customers, and have an interest in teaching or training others?
A rare opportunity has arisen for an Optical Assistant to join the School of Optometry and Vision Science, combining working in our busy client-centered practice with the stimulation and challenge of a teaching environment.
About us
The School offers the Bachelor of Optometry (BOptom) - New Zealand's only optometry programme. Graduates are able to apply for registration to enable them to work as Optometrists in New Zealand and Australia.
In this key role, you will guide students through the dispensing component of the BOptom.
The opportunity:
- You'll work primarily in the modern, well-equipped optometry teaching clinic on our Grafton Campus, with its large, attractive dispensing areas and wide range of frames and lenses in stock
- This role also includes some support for off-site clinical activities run by the school at locations around Auckland, so it would be useful to have your own transport available
Who are we looking for?:
- You'll ideally have at least three years' industry experience as an Optical Assistant or similar
- We provide a wide range of assessment, treatment and dispensing services to adults and children, so you must be focused on providing excellent customer service to staff, students and the general public
- You'll be highly professional, with an interest in and some experience of the business aspects of service delivery
- You will understand the need for ongoing development to ensure we deliver best practice service to students and clients in optical dispensing, and you'll be committed to the teaching and development of our students
You will work closely with a full-time Dispensing Optician and the Clinical Director of the BOptom programme, as well as supervisors and other staff in the School of Optometry and Vision Science.
Why us?
As you'd expect of an organisation just voted the fifth most attractive large-scale employer in the country, you can look forward to some great benefits whilst working at the University of Auckland.
We offer five weeks' annual leave and over 300 courses and workshops designed to support your personal development, as well as a generous company superannuation scheme, discounted car parking, childcare and a number of other subsidies on internal and external services.
If this sounds like the next step in your career, we'd love to hear from you! Applications must be submitted online, before the closing date of Wednesday, 8 August 2018!
This is a full-time, permanent position. Professional Staff Level 3.
