Detail information about job Senior Advisor, Intelligence Coordination. Terms and conditions vacancy

  • Be a part of a small, agile team with big ambitions.
  • Support the National Intelligence Coordination Committee

We have an exciting opportunity at the heart of central government and national security, in a challenging, cross-sector, senior advisor role.

The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC)

DPMC occupies a unique position at the centre of New Zealand's system of democratic government. It exists to support the effective conduct of executive government by the Prime Minister, the Governor-General and members of the Cabinet. The Senior Advisor forms an important part of Intelligence Coordination Unit, which as part the Security and Intelligence Group, supports DPMC's leadership role in the national security sector.

What's in it for you

The Intelligence Coordination Unit works across the intelligence sector to lead and enable the effective delivery of the Government's intelligence priorities, with a particular focus on high-level customers, including the Prime Minister and other Ministers. The Unit is responsible for supporting the National Intelligence Coordination Committee and actively manages frameworks to empower and support multi-agency coordination groups. The Unit also leads DPMC's contribution to an intelligence community initiative to improve customer engagement using a systems thinking framework.

The Senior Advisor, Intelligence Coordination, provides strategic and targeted advice, builds relationships and develops systems to support the Intelligence Coordination Unit's goals. The Senior Advisor also leads the New Zealand intelligence sector in the coordinated and effective development of open source intelligence capabilities.

This role provides a unique opportunity for anyone already working within the national security workforce, or for those who are new to it, to gain experience working with agencies across the entire intelligence sector on strategic, priority issues. Working with us is about being part of a small, agile team with big ambitions.

Flexible working arrangements and secondment opportunities are welcomed.

What we're looking for

To be successful in the role of Senior Advisor you will need to:

  • Take a systems-leadership approach, being able to think and work across systems
  • Have sufficient judgement and initiative to work in a complex relationship environment, in which DPMC sometimes does not have formal authority
  • Be able to identify, quickly and accurately, issues of importance to relationship partners, sometimes by inference rather than expressed explicitly
  • Be able to work effectively with multiple partners with different interests
  • Be able to provide a high level of intellectual and coordination leadership

You must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance. Ordinarily to obtain this level of clearance candidates must have a 15 year checkable background in countries where meaningful and reliable checks can be undertaken. Where requisite checks are unable to be made, the candidate application may not be able to be progressed.

Applications close 5pm 30 July 2018. All applications must be made online.
