Legal Officer

The Commission’s Legal Team is looking for a Legal Officer to assist with general legal and research advice, Official Information Act and Privacy Act responses and coordination of activities related to the Optional Protocol to the Convention Against Torture (OPCAT). You’ll enjoy being part of a supportive and flexible working environment, one that offers interesting and rewarding work.
You will be part of a team which is responsible for providing expert legal and policy advice, participating in legal proceedings, undertaking research and evaluation for the Commission, preparing submissions for Select Committees, liaising with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and monitoring New Zealand’s compliance with international human rights obligations.
This is an interesting role that would suit a junior - intermediate level lawyer with a current practising certificate and a strong interest in human rights. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in indigenous rights and experience or interest in the criminal justice sector.
The role is full time and Wellington based.
