We are committed to delivering excellence by being a high performing organisation, and are embarking on a business refocus and transformation to realise this.  At the heart of this is embedding our values of ‘integrity, manaakitanga and professionalism’.  We’re looking for those people with the talent, enthusiasm and commitment to be a part of our high performance journey.

The Far North District Council is a respected and trusted organisation that is committed to working with the community, elected members and community boards to enable and deliver the best outcomes for the region.  At the heart of our organisation are our values of ‘Integrity, Manaakitaanga and Professionalism’.

The 3 Waters Planner works in our Infrastructure Planning Team within the Infrastructure and Asset Management department of the Far North District Council.  The Infrastructure and Asset Management team is a dedicated group of professionals focused on achieving affordable council infrastructure to meet the needs of our communities and the environment – now and into the future.  In this role you will be working with a wide range of stakeholders to develop strategies and policies focused on the long term management and affordability of the 3 waters infrastructure.

What sets you apart from your peers?

You may be an experienced and confident planner looking to apply evidenced based decision making in a local government setting and learn about the challenges that rural councils face providing affordable and effective services to a diverse customer base.  Perhaps you are an outgoing engineer with experience in local government looking for an opportunity to engage in policy and strategy development to better understand non-engineering solutions.

To be successful in this role you will be a strong communicator with a high standard of written communication.  In addition, you will need the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships (with both internal and external stakeholders) to improve stakeholder understanding of 3 waters infrastructure, improve customer relationships and enhance the development or revision of 3 waters based policies, strategies or standards.

This role requires a suitable tertiary level qualification in planning or engineering, as well as at least 5 years’ experience in planning or 3 Waters management within local government.  You will also have a good understanding of both the Resource Management Act 1991 and the Local Government Act 2002.
