About the business and the role

At WhitebaitMedia we pride ourselves on having a great team culture and fun work environment.

We currently have a vacancy for an Art Department Coordinator for 'Fanimals'- TV2's daily kids show all about animals!  The role involves managing all aspects of the Fanimals Art Department, including prop design and build, research, testing and preparation of how to tutorials, minor set construction, repair and dressing, and set cleaning.

Job tasks and responsibilities

You will be charged with managing the Fanimals Art Department; ensuring all props are ready, safe, and functional on studio record days and field shoots; and preparing the various elements and stages required for the 'How To' tutorials (cooking, craft, science and simple DIY projects) always ensuring we wow our audience and enhance the experience for all kids, parents and pets involved.

Key tasks include:

  • Manage all Art Department requirements of the studio set for the weekly record including prop design and construction, prop sourcing, prop operation (some heavy lifting), set dressing and finishing and extensive studio clean up (it is an animal show)
  • Research, Test, Script and create the various weekly 'How To' segments of the show. Ensuring they are prepped in simple stages that are easily explainable to our target audience.
  • Build eye-catching and animal safe props and set elements for regular studio and field content records.
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding and compliance with the animal welfare act across all show activity.
  • Liaise with Production Manager to conduct efficient weekly reconciliation of all art department expenses.
  • Read, watch and research anything and everything that appeals to the Fanimals audience of 7-10-year-old animal lovers and create art concepts that enhance the special relationship kids and families have with their animals.

You must also be flexible to the needs of the production and undertake any project or additional duties within the realms of the position with a can-do attitude. Be our creative spark in our bright, Kiwi, animal-friendly world!

This role is a full-time fixed-term contract of up to 20 weeks starting from early-mid August 2018.

To apply, please send your CV and covering letter to [email protected] before Thursday the 26th of July 2018.

Skills and experience

This is a very active role that will require a wide range of both creative and construction skills. Experience in creative design and build, excellent problem-solving skills, communication skills, and a clean full driver's licence are essential. Other desirable attributes are being a self-manager and having a strong customer focus in all your work. Experience in an art department role in television production would also be of value, but is not required.

You'll fit in well if you're creative, energetic, fun, love animals, and aren't scared to get your hands dirty! If you show massive initiative and embrace new and innovative ways to engage our guests, kids and parents with our fun Fanimals world, you will excel in this varied and fast-paced role.
