Note that we are open to negotiating flexible and/or part-time hours between 30-40 hours per week.

Who we are

Every hour of every day, 365 days of the year, the New Zealand Defence Force contributes to the defence, security and well-being of Aotearoa / New Zealand. As a modern, professional military, it is our goal to maintain well trained, equipped and disciplined armed forces that can react to crisis at short notice.

CIS Branch provides the core information and communication services that underpin New Zealand Defence operations. We enable the interaction between our people, our partners and the broader defence community, at home and abroad.

CIS Branch is totally unique, we are entrusted to deliver and support the Defence technology that helps keep New Zealanders safe. We work locally and globally to provide solutions to military-specific challenges and to ensure Defence information can flow efficiently and securely between New Zealand and our Allies.

Why us

Let’s just say we’re not your typical corporate IT department.

  • We provide support to more than 14,000 military and civilian Defence Force personnel who are dispersed on seven continents, often in geographically remote, hostile environments
  • Our solutions are deployed to personal devices, vehicles, ships and planes
  • We’re here to deliver military outcomes, not just the technology behind them

It’s also the perfect time to join us. We are in the process of transforming our culture and the way we work so we truly understand our customers and partner with them strategically.

By joining us as we evolve to a modern, shared information and technology platform, you will be part of a culture that endears trust, empowers decision-making and respects people.

What we need

We are keen to hear from you if you are a detail oriented ICT professional with experience in policy, auditing, reporting or similar and the ability to apply relevant ICT frameworks to real life scenarios.

You’ll enjoy this role if you are a deep thinker, not afraid to challenge others and are happy to hold the rule book.  At the same time, however, you will need to be customer-focused, capable of building sound working relationships across NZDF and able to adapt and learn on the way.

In addition you will need:

  • Government experience and an understanding of the machinery of government
  • Expert knowledge of frameworks such as COBIT5, ITIL, BABOK, TOGAF, CMF, CMB, PRICIE, Lean, Six Sigma etc.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and influencing skills.
  • Experience with process improvement within a complex organisation
  • Tertiary education in a relevant subject eg science, politics, languages or journalism - or equivalent experience.

Please note that you must be able and willing to travel within New Zealand and overseas if required.
