About the Organisation

This is a large New Zealand owned and run organisation employing around 2,000 people. They are based in the central Wellington CBD, close to all transport links. They take pride in offering a great work/life balance and are happy to negotiate flexi work hours as needed. That said, this is a full time role, and not a part time one.

About the role

PLEASE READ THIS: You definitely need to have had experience of working in an applications support role in the past. This position is NOT suitable for someone looking for their first applications support role.

You will be reporting to the Applications Support Manager. He is one of the nicest and most supportive managers you could ever hope for. The organisation also offers LOADS - and I do mean LOADS - of ongoing formal and informal training, and they will support towards you attaining formal IT certifications.

What they are looking for in this position is someone who is already experienced in applications support. You will be a member of a team of 20 people who are involved in a wide range of cross-functional work such as business analysis, reporting, data analysis, etc.

NOTE: if you are hoping to steer your career in to a Business Analyst path, you can't do any better than this. It is a great training ground opportunity for a skilled applications support professional wanting to expand their skills in to the business analysis arena.

IT IS IMPORTANT that you have an understanding of Agile and Scrum and DevOps as that is their key methodology of approach. You don't need to be a whiz, but you do need to know what Agile is about, how it works, and how it benefits a team in doing their work.

They have 40 systems that you will be carrying out applications support for. Some of them are web based systems, and will have you involved in applications and apps based support. Others are server-based enterprise scale systems, so any experience you have in the area of large scale enterprise-level applications support will be strongly welcomed.  

You also need an understanding of how applications support works in a Cloud based environment, or in an outsourced Infrastructure-As-A-Service environment.

It is crucial that you are someone who really likes to learn and grow, and who is able to pick up new technologies quickly.  

What they want to see in your CV:

  • experience of having worked in an applications support role
  • Some familiarity with Agile, Scrum and DevOps
  • Experience of carrying out applications support for substantial, server based applications
  • Experience in carrying out applications support Cloud based or Infrastructure-As-A-Service environments 
  • A clear commitment to customer service standards and positive engagement with users.
