Detail information about job Avocado Seedling Grafter. Terms and conditions vacancy

Lynwood Avocado Nursery is New Zealand’s largest and longest established Avocado Nursery. We are committed to producing the very best trees, using the best industry techniques … many of which have been either developed or honed here at Lynwood. It is an on-going process.

We are currently looking for grafters … the more experienced the better.

Grafting is the process of splicing a section of scion wood tissue from one plant into an established section of rootstock material of another that will, when done properly, join together ‘seamlessly’ to give the very best characteristics of both plants, to the final product. But then, hopefully you already know that.

Grafting young Avocado seedlings, using our production methods regularly requires you to be joining two pieces of plant material that may each be only 4mm in diameter. It is meticulous, methodical and exacting work that must be perfect every time while maintaining adequate quantities produced each day.

You will need to have perfect vision, most likely without glasses because of the humidity in the work environment, great dexterity, an attention to detail and a determination to get it right time after time.

At Lynwood we work from 7:30am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday, making this a full-time position ... however is you have the experience we are after and if other 'duties' make you unable to work full-time, some flexibility, around hours per day, may be considered for the right person,

Fully training in our methods and requirements will be given to the successful candidate. There will be times when other nursery duties will need to be attended to, as required by the Nursery Manager.

After an establishment period the successful candidate may be offered onsite training and tutorage towards a Diploma in Horticultural.
