A very rare opportunity has arisen to work in the beautiful farmland of Hohepa Hawkes Bay, on our Organic/Bio Dynamic Farm!
The Land Use area of Hohepa Hawke's Bay's Community jointly operates two distinct farming organisms at Clive and Poraiti, to provide produce of the highest quality to the Hohepa Community and the wider market, according to Bio-dynamic principals and to Demeter Certification Standards.
Meaningful, appropriate and therapeutic work and vocational training is provided for a number of Hohepa residents with Special Needs.
What we are looking for in our perfect candidate:
Someone who is able to carry out the following duties:
- Crop cultivation including land preparation and weed management.
- Sowing / propagation and planting.
- Glasshouse/ polytunnel management for high value crops (tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers.)
- Bio-dynamic preparation use including application and recording, in compliance with Demeter production standards
- Use of tractor for mowing and cultivation.
- Crop harvesting and distribution on a thrice-weekly basis including record keeping
- Compost making and application on gardens and orchards.
- Resident supervision as directed, including work and break times
- Completion of incident and accident reports in accordance with the Hohepa Procedure Manual
- Provision of regular reports on residents as requested
- The regular use of a day-book to note tasks undertaken and work identified as needing to be done
- Regular attendance at planning and review meetings with
- Sustainability Manager as requested
- Attendance at staff training events as requested
- Attendance at weekly farm meetings
BUT most importantly you will need a sense of humour, a great attitude and be prepared to enable and assist our special people.
There will be training and handover by the long-term gardener.
