Oranga Tamariki - Ministry for Children is committed to putting children and young people at the heart of everything we do and say. We now have an opportunity for a qualified Social Worker to join our Care Services team.
Using the latest strengths based practice tools and assessment frameworks; you will work hard to get quality outcomes for tamariki and rangatahi. This role will be varied, and some activities that you would be doing as a Social Worker with us include primary responsibility for the assessment of adoptive applicants, working with birth parents, facilitating ‘Ways to Care’ training and providing advice and support across the care spectrum. Your tenacity to overcome everyday barriers and ability to drive positive outcomes will put you in good stead for this challenging yet hugely rewarding role.
Preference is given to those who have:
- The ability to quickly build rapport with tamariki, rangatahi and whānau
- A high level of sensitivity and empathy
- Great written and verbal communication skills – you will need to write court reports
- Resilience, motivation and be driven
- Flexibility to work an afterhours duty roster
- Good computer navigation and typing skills
- A full clean valid driver's licence without conditions
- An understanding of the Adoption Act 1955, Inter-country Adoption Act 1997 and Adult Adoption Information Act 1985
