NZCare Disability Taranaki is looking for a Team Leader to work rostered 24/7 shifts in a service supporting someone with a disability to live an independent life.

You'll be a motivated, creative individual who is passionate about providing quality support, and identifying with this person's individual needs. Together with the Service Manager you'll have oversight of the Disability Support Workers working alongside this person carrying out everyday tasks from household chores to pursuing hobbies and interests, and accessing the community.

The person we're supporting is looking for someone who can understand what is important to them and assist them to achieve their personal goals and aspirations.

What does a Team Leader do?

A Team Leader works within a Support Worker team to deliver quality support to people with disabilities, assisting them in their daily living needs. Working collaboratively with a Service Manager, they are responsible for overseeing the effective day-to-day support provided in the service. These are hands-on roles encompassing personal cares, cooking, general household duties and leisure activities at home and in the community.

What skills do I need?

  • Experience supporting a person with high and complex needs (preferable but not essential as training is provided)
  • Experience in supporting disabled people of all ages with high and complex needs is highly desirable although full training is provided
  • Strong leadership skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of people including family, community, and professional groups
  • The ability to work a rotating shift roster
  • A reasonable level of physical fitness
  • Patience, adaptability and a passion for improving the lives of others
  • Minimum Level 3 NZ Certificate, Health & Wellbeing, or equivalent is desirable
  • I.T skills and the ability to work with both manual and computerised record keeping
